Two years ago East High School student Greg Muldrew found a ring with initials on the inside in his backyard. He gave the ring to teacher Dennis Carner who looked at the old yearbooks and found the owner's name. Mr. Carner then went to East High's Alumni website and located the lost ring link and posted the information. He received an email from Jed Heynoski in October 2008 saying that he was the brother of Darlene Heynoski the ring's owner. It turns out he was searching for his sister and found information regarding the finding of the ring and hoped to contact his sister regarding the ring. Mr. Carner did not hear anything further until this spring when Mr. Heynoski informed him that he found his sister and she was coming back to Erie to visit and she would like to claim her ring. Ms. Darlene Heynoski arrived at East High believing that it could not have possibly be her ring since she lost it 30 some years earlier. When Mr. Carner showed her the ring, she was shocked and elated to find that it was indeed her ring. She was extremely grateful and and she was extremely grateful.
This was recieved from Ms. Heynoski on March 31, 2009, after she had recieved her ring:
I just wanted to update you quickly to let you know I have not forgotten your kindness and generosity. I am still in awe over this and have not taken that ring off my finger, now that I've placed it where it belongs on my right hand.
"I believe my daughter may have located the young man ... (Greg Muldrew) that found the ring. He says that he found it in a backyard on East Lake Rd, which just happens to be where we moved into after moving from the 12th Street apartment that I spoke of. We moved into 1201 E. Lake Rd in 1976 where we lived for a short while with my then mother-in-law. So, this must be where I lost it. Gosh, hard to imagine that this ring stayed put there all these years. Amazing." |
