Grandfather reading Twilight? Imagine walking in on your grandpa while he was reading Twilight. Weird, right? Well, the Twilight series is the “big thing” at the moment and has been for a quite while. Stephenie Meyer wrote three sequels to Twilight, which include: New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Stores have a hard time keeping them on the shelves. They became overnight bestsellers. According to employees at the Book Outlet, the Twilight series are the most requested books! The popularity of the series can be attributed to the fact that people from all ages, youth to senior citizens, are purchasing them. Twilight was so successful it was made into a movie in the fall of 2008. The most popular characters in the novels are: “Edward Cullen” played by Robert Pattinson and “Bella Swan” portrayed by actress Kristen Stewart, and “Jacob Black” played by actor Taylor Lautner. Twilight, the movie, was the number one grossing film for many months. On November 20th, New Moon, the sequel to Twilight, arrived in theaters. I was so excited about the new movie coming out that I decided to see if any of my peers were as excited as I was. So, I conducted some interviews and the results were fascinating! Most of the people have either read, seen, or heard of Twilight. Many of the “die-hard” fans read and see the movie, while the rest of the population will just go and see the movie. But all will agree that reading the book itself would probably be better than just seeing the movie. In terms of who their favorite characters are from the novel: the votes were split between Edward and Jacob. What’s funny is that the majority of the people identified the actors with the characters and based their decisions on that rather than on the characters’ actions in the novel. When asked the question “What character could you relate to the most?” The majority chose Bella Swan. Surprisingly, a number of them replied that they were unable to relate to any of the characters. Perhaps one of the most interesting answers came from a fellow student who said that her grandfather is currently reading New Moon and seems to be enjoying it!
