Acquiesce-v. to comply or submit
Adjacent- A. next to; neighboring B. the length of a line segment between the two points on a circle that passes through the middle
Arithmetic Mean - the most commonly used type of average. Add the numbers in the set and divide the sum by n.
Belligerent- adj. manifesting a warlike spirit; hostile
Bisect- cut into two congruent halves 
Chameleon- adj. changeable in appearance 
Congruent- exactly equal in size and shape 
Demeanor- n. a person’s conduct toward others 
Diameter- A. a line segment between two points on a circle that passes through the middle
Domain – the set of values of the independent variables for which a function or relation is defined.  Typically, this is the set of x-values that give rise to real y-values
Element (of a Set) – a number, letter, point, line or any other object contained in a set for example the elements of the set {a,b,c} are the letters  a, b and c
Eloquent - adj. having the ability to express emotion or feeling in lofty and impassioned speech
Flamboyant -  adj. characterized by extravagance and in general by want of good taste
Function - (math) A relation for which each element of the domain corresponds to exactly one element of the range
Ghastly – adj. hideous
Hiatus – n. a break or vacancy where something necessary to supply the connection is wanting
Indolence – n. laziness
Jargon - n. confused, unintelligible speach or highly technical speech
Labyrinth - n. a maze
Mean - another word for average. Mean almost always refers to the arithmetic mean.
Median (of a set of numbers) - the value for which half the numbers are larger and half are smaller. If there are two middle numbers, the median is th earithmetic mean of the two middle numbers.
Mediocre - adj. ordinary
Mode - the number that occurs the most often in a list. For example: 5 is the mode of 2,3,3,4,5,5,5
Nocturnal - adj. of or pertaining to the night
Obsolete - adj. no longer practiced or accepted
Percentile - the number such that n% of the data is less than tat number. For example: a student whos SAT score is in the 78th percentile hs scored higher than 78% of the students taking the test. 
Range – the set of y-values of a function or relation.  More generally, the range is the set of values assumed by a function or relation over all permitted values of the independent variable(s)
Relation - (math) a set of ordered pairs for example: {(1,2),(3,4),(5,6),(7,8)}  or {(x,y): y=2x}
